My Home Town

Conception Bay South has been my home town since 1958. That was the year we left Creston South, on The Burin Peninsula and moved to Manuel’s. A few memories from my teenage years include, swimming in the flats, walking Manuel’s River to Patty’s Pond, playing hockey on Squire’s Pond and Chamberlain’s Pond, playing softball and soccer with Manuel’s and the all star tournaments that we attended.

My first job was working at Ted Butler’s store. Ted carried everything that a general store would carry. We would receive written grocery orders and fill them on Thursday and Friday nights. Ted and I would have a snack of sliced ham, premium crackers, with mayo and Ted would have a bottle of Heineken and I would have a Pepsi or a Coke.
